This problem relies on trick wording. Some people might misread the problem so they would do 1 7 − 9 = 8 instead of reading that the answer is directly 9 .

OMG!! This is one of the hardest problems in math history. It took lots of effort to me to answer it. To those who want to answer this problem, combination of calculus, number theory, and algebra LEVEL 5 + + are needed! It's really difficult to write down the solution here because it requires at least 1000 pages of scientific journal IEEE to sum it up. I believe this problem deserves to be The 8 t h Question of Millenium Problems .
