Since θ \theta and φ \varphi are complementary, then θ + φ = 9 0 \theta + \varphi = 90^\circ

Therefore, φ = 9 0 θ \varphi = 90^\circ - \theta

So,

tan φ = sin φ cos φ = sin ( 9 0 θ ) cos ( 9 0 θ ) = cos θ sin θ = cot θ = 1 tan θ \tan \varphi = \dfrac{ \sin \varphi }{\cos \varphi} = \dfrac{ \sin(90^\circ - \theta) }{\cos(90^\circ - \theta) } = \dfrac{ \cos \theta }{\sin \theta} = \cot \theta = \dfrac{1}{\tan \theta}

Therefore, tan φ = 1 0.5 = 2 \tan \varphi = \dfrac{1}{0.5} = 2
