Linnaeus was the first scientist who started thinking seriously about classifying organisms. He also pioneered Binomial Nomenclature.

To be precise, It was Aristotle actually. He divided animals into Anaima and Enaima and plants into shrubs, herbs and trees based on their external gross morphology and habit.

Aristotle did so many things. His attempt to gather knowledge blows my mind.

Shouldn't it be Carroleus Linneaus rather than Carl?

Well, Carolus is the anglicized version. Carl von Linne was his original name, so Carl Linnaeus is like Half Latin , Half English :D
