From the above, the area of the circle is equivalent to the area of the rectangle and the circumference of the circle is 12.56 cm. What is the area of the DARKENED part?

The rectangle in the circle is actually one fourth the circle.

Since the circumfence is 4 π c m 4\pi cm ,the radius is 2 c m 2cm .The dark area is equal to a 3 4 \dfrac34 circle. 2 2 π × 3 4 = 3 π 2^2\pi\times\dfrac34=3\pi
