No of apples eaten on wednesday is x

No of apples eaten on tuesday is x+49

x+49+x=51

Let, Wednesday's apple to be x and Tuesday's apple to be x + 49

*We need to find x that is Wednesday's apple so that we can substitute the value of x in Tuesday's apple equation to get the amount of apple been ate. *

Hence here it goes :¬

x + x + 49 = 51

2x = 2

x = 1 (Amount of apple been ate on Wednesday)

Substituting in Tuesday's apple equation,

x + 49 (we know x is 1)

So, 1 + 49 that is 50 apples been ate on Tuesday.

50 - 1 = 49 and 50 + 1 = 51. Therefore the answer is 50 apples on Tuesday.

x = 51 (total apples)

Tue = Tuesday's Apples

Wed = Wednesday's Apples

Tue = 49 + Wed

Tue	+	Wed	=	x
Tue	+	1	=	51
Tue			=	51 - 1
Tue			=	50

If you ate 51 apples in all, and in Tuesday you ate 49 more than Wednesday, you ate 50 apples in Tuesday and 1 in Wednesday.

Total apples eaten are 51 which means apples eaten on tuesday are definitely less than or equal to 51 (incase no apple is eaten on wednesday). Therefore 52 cannot be the answer. Now since it says that apples eaten on tuesday are 49 more..it clearly indicates that the answer cannot be 12 or 1. Hence, it has to be 50.
