consider the number be XYZ.. 3 can occur 1 time 3 can occur 2 times 3 can occur 3 times in this number XYZ

Case 1 3 occurs 1 time

=>3 9 9 ways it can be done=243

Case 2 3 occurs 2 times

=>3 2 9 ways = 54 ways

Case 3 3 occurs 3 times

=>3 ways

Total no. of ways = 300

Therefore, 3 occurs 300 times while listing numbers from 1 to 1000.....

Dude, you will have to mention that by occuring you mean the 3's you can count in the digits of numbers listed from 1-1000. I thought it meant, if the digit 3 occurred in a number( irrespective of the no. Of times it appeared) . For e.g according to you 333 = 3 value , according to me 333 = 1 because 3 appeared in this number
