Are Triangles Trapezoids?

Geometry Level 1

Are triangles trapezoids? Think about it a second before answering.
A triangle looks like a trapezoids with one base equal to 0.
The formulas support this too! b 2 × h \frac{b}{2}\times h or b 1 + b 2 2 × h \frac{b_{1}+b_{2}}{2}\times h .

So, are they trapezoids?

No! Of course not! Trapezoids are quadrilaterals and the sum of their angles is 360 (in degrees). Triangles, while it at times can be helpful to think of them as trapezoids, such as when calculating the area under a curve (calculus), are not trapezoids for they only have 3 sides and the sum of their angles is only 180 (in degrees). But if you hadn't thought about this before, now you have! Cool, eh?
