Let x be the number of students in school A and y be that of school B.
x + y 6 6 x + 7 3 y = 7 0
6 6 x + 7 3 y = 7 0 x + 7 0 y
Thus, 3 y = 4 x .
If y = x + 1 0 , then 3 ( x + 1 0 ) = 4 x . Hence, x = 3 0 .
If y = x − 1 0 , then 3 ( x − 1 0 ) = 4 x ; x = − 3 0 , which is not applicable.
Therefore, x + y = 3 0 + 4 0 = 7 0 .
