bat+ball=50
bat=49+ball
so 49+ball+ball=50
2 ball = 50-49=1
1 ball = 1/2 =0.5

Let the cost of ball be x
Then cost of bat=x+49
x+49+x=$50 2x=50-49
x=$1/2 x=$0.50

The cost of the bat is 49.50$ and the cost of the ball is 0.50$
