Two persons, weighing 80 80 kilograms and 60 60 kilograms, respectively sit at the ends of a teeterboard 14 14 feet long. At what distance (in feet) should the fulcrum be placed from the heavier person to balance the board? Neglect the weight of the board.

80 x = 60 ( 14 − x ) 80x=60(14-x)

80 x = 840 − 60 x 80x=840-60x

140 x = 840 140x=840

x = 6 f e e t \boxed{x=6~feet}
