Aluminium (III) oxide ( A l 2 O 3 ) and zinc oxide ( Z n O ) are amphoteric and will react with both acids and bases in neutralisation reaction. For example, Zinc oxide reacts with sulfuric acid (very acidic) to form Zinc sulfate and water
H 2 S O 4 + Z n O → Z n S O 4 + H 2 O
Zinc oxide can react with sodium hydroxide to form sodium zincate and water
Z n O + 2 N a O H → N a 2 Z n O 2 + H 2 O
Nitrogen is non-metal and will form acidic oxide with high oxide concentration. Thus nitrogen (V) oxide, ( N 2 O 5 is acidic
Furthermore, magnesium is alkaline earth metal and MgO will be basic oxide. MgO only reacts with acids in neutralisation reaction.
