Beautiful Sodium-Chloride crystal

Chemistry Level 1

Sodium chloride, also known as salt, common salt, table salt or halite, is an ionic compound with the formula N a C l \ce{NaCl} , representing equal proportions of sodium and chlorine. In chemistry, an ionic compound is a chemical compound in which ions are held together in a lattice structure by ionic bonds. In case of sodium chloride, the cation is N a X + \ce{Na+} and the anion is C l X \ce{Cl-} . In solid sodium chloride, how many N a X + \ce{Na+} ions are surrounding one C l X \ce{Cl-} ion?

Given the cubic ionic lattice of NaCl, there are six faces to a cube which would fit around a Cl- ion, resulting in 6 Na+ cations surrounding each Cl-

you assumed that it is face centered ! ok but every Na atom share with two cubs dos that make it 3 ?

Indeed. For C s + Cs^+ and C l Cl^- their coordination numbers are 8. But for N a + Na^+ and C l Cl^- , the situation is as described. The picture provided by the question gave an evidence.
