Geometry Level 2

There are two vectors, x = ( 3 , 7 ) \overrightarrow{x}=(3,~7) and y = ( 8 , 9 ) \overrightarrow{y}=(-8,~9) .

Find the value of x y \overrightarrow{x}\cdot\overrightarrow{y} .

Notation: a b \overrightarrow{a}\cdot\overrightarrow{b} denotes the inner product of the two vectors a \overrightarrow{a} and b \overrightarrow{b} .

x y = ( 3 , 7 ) ( 8 , 9 ) = 24 + 63 = 39 \overrightarrow{x}\cdot\overrightarrow{y}=(3,~7)\cdot(-8,~9)=-24+63=\boxed{39} .
