Being Organic

Chemistry Level 3

Let us take 2 compounds A C H X 3 O H \ce{CH_3OH} and B C H X 3 C H X 2 O H \ce{CH_3CH_2OH}

Now A is treated with K C N \ce{KCN} and B with A g C N \ce{AgCN} to form C and D respectively.

Now C and D are hydrolyzed to form E and F respectively.

Now E is treated with N a B H X 4 \ce{NaBH_4} to form G which is treated with S O C l X 2 \ce{SOCl_2} to form H.

Now finally H is treated with L i A l H X 4 \ce{LiAlH_4} to form I.

Report the answer as product of molecular masses of F and I.

All reactions occur in suitable solvents.

The answer is 2070.

C is C H X 3 C N \ce{CH_3CN}

D is C H X 3 C H X 2 N C \ce{CH_3CH_2NC}

E is C H X 3 C O O H \ce{CH_3COOH}

F is C H X 3 C H X 2 N H X 2 \ce{CH_3CH_2NH_2}

G is same as E as N a B H X 4 \ce{NaBH_4} does not react with acids

H is C H X 3 C O C l \ce{CH_3COCl}

I is C H X 3 C H X 2 O H \ce{CH_3CH_2OH}
