Berkson's Restaurants

Logic Level 1

Patrons rate restaurants based on a number of features, including the quality of the food and the quality of the "atmosphere" (what it looks like, what music they play, etc). They combine these ratings into an overall rating from one to five stars.

You come across two restaurants that you know have five star ratings. You can see inside, but you haven't tasted the food yet. Which restaurant is more likely to have the best tasting food?

Let's say the value (V) of a restaurant is direct and positive function of the taste of food (T) and the quality of the ambient (A). The bigger these values are, the more stars the restaurant gets. We have 2 restaurants that have both 5 stars, but one of them is worst looking. If both of them have 5 stars, the one which is worst looking must compense this loss in A with more points in T, so it will probably serve much better food.

Obvsiously, we should consider all the variables, but the question says "more likely", so we can think that the other variables are equals.

We can consider this like an inverse proportion - if we have an awesome looking restaurant, great food is not needed, elsewhere if we have horrendous looking interiors or exteriors, yet we still have a 5-star rating, the food must be tremendously good.

Among the restaurants with a high score there will likely be a negative correlation between quality of food and looks.

The good looking restaurant got points for its food and looks. The bad looking restaurant got points only for its food. If they both got 5 stars, it should be the bad looking restaurant because it got rated only on food, while the good looking one got rated on both.

Among the restaurants with a high score there will likely be a negative correlation between quality of food and looks.

HI there friends! I believe online dating sites are the best option for you. There are a lot of women there. I would recommend a decent online dating site called https://seniordatingsitesfree.com/ where I met my girlfriend three months ago. Simply register there, and I am sure you would enjoy using it. Best wishes.
