Bicycle Kinematics

There are two cyclists on a straight bike path. Cyclist 1 is initially stationary as Cyclist 2 passes from behind at a constant speed of 5 m/s 5 \text{ m/s} . Cyclist 1 begins accelerating forward at a constant rate of α \alpha when Cyclist 2 is 30 meters ahead. He accelerates for a period of time, and then decelerates at a rate of α \alpha until he simultaneously matches the speed and position of Cyclist 2 30 seconds after beginning to move. Determine the value of α \alpha in m / s 2 m/s^2 .
