There are three books on a shelf , volumes 1,2 and 3 . Each book is 24mm thick , comprising 2cm thickness of pages , and 2mm for each cover . A bookworm eats its way from page 1 of volume 1 , to the last page of volume 3. How far does it travel?(in mm)

Actually the first volume is put just upside down over the second and the third volume is also in the same way. Thus total distance traversed= End cover of 1st+total thickness of 2nd+ first cover of third. =2+24+2 =28! Ans.
