a b c \large a^{b^c} is evaluated as a ( b c ) \large a^{(b^c)}

2 2 2 = 2 4 \large 2^{2^2} = 2^4

2 2 × 2 2 = ( 2 2 ) 2 = 2 4 \large 2^2 \times 2^2 = (2^2)^2 = 2^4

Thus, 2 2 2 = 2 2 × 2 2 \large 2^{2^2} = 2^2 \times 2^2
