Burning hot

Alice is baking potatoes in a baking pan lined with aluminum foil. Around the edges of the pan, the foil overhangs the pan by about 1 inch. Right after the pan is taken out of the oven, Alice grabs the edges of the aluminum foil with her bare hands and transfers the potatoes to a serving dish.

The aluminum foil stores very little heat, because it is very thin. Therefore it will cool very rapidly once it is in contact with the skin. In fact, it is probably cooled by the surrounding air during the time the pan was removed from the oven.

Reminds me of cooking and getting splattered with little bits of boiling oil. Despite the high initial temperature, there's too little energy in each bit to amount to anything.

Yes, it is similar, but the oil is more dangerous, because the amount is difficult to control. Here it is pretty safe, I did it many times.
