Let the number of letters of an option be n k n_k and the total number of letters of all the options be N N , then the correct option must be N n c o r r e c t N-n_{correct} . The following shows all the possible N n k N-n_k . Only N n 33 N-n_{33} matches an option. Therefore, the answer is 33 \boxed{33} .

Option Number of letters n k N n k fifty five 9 35 eleven 6 38 twenty two 9 35 forty four 9 35 thirty three 11 33 Total N : 44 \begin{array} {lcc} \text{Option} & \text{Number of letters } n_k & N - n_k \\ \hline \text{fifty five} & 9 & 35 \\ \text {eleven} & 6 & 38 \\ \text{twenty two} & 9 & 35 \\ \text{forty four} & 9 & 35 \\ \color{#3D99F6}{\text{thirty three}} & 11 & \color{#3D99F6}{33} \\ \hline \text{ Total }N: & 44 \end{array}

I thought so too before but alphabet refers to the set of letters not the individual letters. Each element of the alphabet set is called a letter of alphabet. It is common for English native-speakers just to say letters to means letters of the alphabet. Look at the following examples, I got from the internet.

On the road signs, the Greek place names have been transliterated into the Latin alphabet. Z comes after Y in the alphabet. The ninth letter of the alphabet is I. The letters had been placed in organized piles, one for each letter of the alphabet. Transcribing the Ethiopian text into the English alphabet was their first task.

Do you see that alphabet is in used in singular because it is referring to the set and not the individual letters? Look at the third sentence. "I" is referred to the ninth letter not the ninth alphabet. None of the examples above refer letter as an alphabet.

Archit, I retired as an English editor for a university in Malaysia.
