Buying Money

If I can buy exotic pennies for $5, exotic dimes for $13 and exotic quarters for $3, what is the greatest amount of money I am unable to spend?

I know this specific problem is easy, but can you generalize it???!!!

The answer is 7.

If we forget about the exotic dimes, the maximum you would be unable to spend would be 5*5-5-3=7 (Chicken McNugget theorem). Being allowed to spend $13 doesn't help you spend $7 and it can't render any smaller amount impossible, so the maximum is still $7.
