In a cable car station, the cars can go up hill or down hill. The cars takes 1.5 1.5 minutes to complete the trip and in each case they move at constant speed.

Exactly 40 40 seconds after the car A A start going up hill, it met the car B B that was going down hill.

How many seconds after the car B B started go down hill the car A A started to go up hill?

If they had started at the same time, they would have met at the 1.5 × 60 2 = 45 \frac {1.5×60}{2}=45 second mark.

But since they meet at the 40 second mark, that means that the distance between then corresponded to 40 × 2 = 80 40×2=80 seconds, which means B left 90 80 = 10 90-80=10 seconds earlier.
