Given information from the problem:

a 1 = 10 a_1=10

a 6 = 40 a_6=40

We wish to find a 20 a_{20}

a 6 = a 1 + 5 d a_6=a_1 + 5d

40 = 10 + 5 d 40=10 + 5d

30 = 5 d 30=5d

d = 6 d=6

Now compute for a 20 a_{20}

a 20 = a 1 + 19 d a_{20}=a_1 + 19d

a 20 = 10 + 19 ( 6 ) = 124 a_{20}=10 + 19(6) = 124
