Lets directly move to the third hint, we get that 5 , 7 , 3 , 8 5 , 7, 3 , 8 are wrong.

Now in second hint, since now 7 7 is wrong we can infer that either ( 0 , 6 ) , ( 0 , 9 ) ( 0 , 6 ) , (0,9) or ( 6 , 9 ) (6,9) satisfy condition of second hint.

Now, in the fourth hint, we have 8 8 wrong and now observe, if 6 6 was correct one then it should also be in correct position, but we have different positions for 6 6 in second and fourth hints. Hence, we can infer that 6 6 is also wrong. So, 0 , 9 0,9 are correct and in correct positions.

So, now we have 2 , 9 2,9 as correct and in correct positions.

Now, in first hint we have 5 5 wrong and 2 2 is correct. Hence, either of 4 4 or 1 1 are correct. Now the condition of first hint tells us that only one of the correct ones are in correct position. From above, we have that 2 2 is in correct position.

Now, from above 2 2 is in first position, 0 0 is in second position and 9 9 is in fourth position. If 4 4 was correct then it infers that as only third position is left and 4 4 is in third position. Hence, it does not satisfy the condition of first hint. Hence, 1 1 is correct.
