This is just a comment: If you look at it deeply, you'll recognize a very beautiful pattern between the red rows and the blue rows which will let you calculate any number of the sequence.

The red rows increase by 1 1 at each new row, and when they will get blue, what happens is that the number of red points is multiplied by (the number of polygons you see +1).

1st line has 1 dot => 1.

2nd line has 2 dots => 1+2 = 3.

3rd line has 3 dots => 3 + 3 = 6.

4th line has 2 dots => 6 + 2 = 8.

5th line had 3 dots => 8 + 3 = 11.

6th line has 6 dots => 11 + 6 = 17.

7th line has 4 dots => 17 + 4 = 21.

8th line has 6 dots => 21 + 6 = 27.

9th line has 9 dots => 27 + 9 = 36.

Next line will have top sides of 3 hexagons whose end points will be represented by red dots.

=> 10th line will have 6 dots.

=> Next term = 36 + 6 = 42.
