Center of mass of car

Suppose that the center of mass of an empty 1450 1450 kg car is 2.20 m 2.20 \text{ m} from the front of the car. Now, two people sit in the front seat and three people sit in the back seat, 2.80 m 2.80 \text{ m} and 3.90 m 3.90 \text{ m} from the front of the car, respectively. How far is the new center of mass of the car from the front of the car?

Assume that each person has a mass of 70 kg. 70 \text{ kg.}

2.45 m 3.90 m 2.80 m 1.50 m

center of mass x = m 1 x 1 + m 2 x 2 + m 3 x 3 m 1 + m 2 + m 3 \frac{m1*x1+ m2 * x2+m3 *x3}{m1+m2+m3}

m1=1450, x1=2.20

m2=140 (2 people in the front so m2=2*70), x2=2.80

m3= 210 (3 people in the back) , x3 = 3.90

x = 2.45 \boxed{2.45}
