Say I have a cubic cereal box that, when in water, floats with 10 % of it sticking out.
Now, when I add oil with 80 percent density of that of water, what percent of the box is going to stay in the water? Suppose air density is negligible.

When it is in water it is displacing say, 9 kilograms of water, so, when the oil is added, it has to displace the same amount of water, which, only works when it is 50 percent in the water and 50 percent in the oil for a total sum of, 5 kilos from the water, and 4 kilos from the oil. Hence, the answer is 50%!
