If the atom has more electrons than protons, it is a negative ion or Anioin. If it has more protons that electrons, it is a positive ion or Cation.

If an atom has more protons than electrons, it has a net positive charge. This is a cation, which you can remember because the "T" \text{"T"} in cation resembles a "+" \text{"+"} sign for positive.
