It's White's turn. What is the minimum number of half moves required to end the game?

The answer is 3.

Rook moves to h4 , threatening the king.

Then the pawn kills the rook.

Then the g3 pawn is moved forward.

There goes the checkmate !

alternatively you take the pawn on G5 with the bishop, assuming that he does not take it with his king, you then move the pawn on G3 forward and that is checkmate

I think the usual assumption is best play by both sides, unless otherwise stated.

But then the black queen would be able totake the white bishop which guarenteed to be not protected. That wouldnt be a checkmate.
