Chester's Torus

Geometry Level 4

What is the minimum number of straight lines required to cover all these 9 spots on a torus if you were using a pen and it could not be removed from the surface?

Treat the spots as a 0-dimensional object. They do not have length or width.

I don't understand what this problem is asking for. How can the 3×3 grid be converted to a torus?
