  • The amount of chestnuts of Peter, Mary and Lucy respectively will be: x 2 x x + 2 \boxed{x} \quad \boxed{2x} \quad \boxed{x+2}
  • Their sum is given to be 26 = 4 x + 2 26 = 4x + 2
  • Hence, x = 6 \boxed{x} = 6 will be amount of Peter
  • 12 12 of Mary and 8 8 of Lucy

6 , 12 , 8 6, 12, 8

Same way, only 6 6 , 12 12 and 8 8 add upto 26 \boxed{26} . @Aseda Nartey , please provide some confusing options!

@Vinayak Srivastava Thanks for the request I'll do that in my later problems.

Let x be the amount Peter picked. Then Mary and Lucy picked 2x and x + 2, respectively. So x + 2x + x + 2 = 26 4x = 24 x = 6

Therefore, Peter, Mary, and Lucy picked 6, 12, and 8 kg, respectively.

I agree with some of the other comments - giving options for this problem makes it easier than it might be. One idea might be to ask "how many kg of chestnuts did Lucy pick?" (so the answer is a single number).

All I did was look at the options and figure out which one adds up to 26 26 kg.

@Aseda Nartey , can you please change your answers - it's very easy at the moment!
