A person can cut a piece of wood into 5 pieces in 20 minutes. He makes each cut at an equal time. How many minutes will it take the person to cut the wood into 10 pieces? Source: Myself

to divide the wood into 5 pieces he has to make 4 cuts. Therefore time taken to make 1 cut is 5 mins.

To divide the log into 10 pieces he has to make 9 cuts hence required time = 9*5= 45 mins

To do 5 piece of wood he will make a total of 4 cut on wood piece. So
4 cuts in 20min. i.e 1 cut in 5 min. So to cut into 10 piece, we have to do a total of 9 cuts i.e 9x5=45 min.
