The radius of a circle is 28 cm and the measure of the angle subtended by an arc at centre is 90/11 degrees. Find the area of major segment. NOTE- no need to give the unit in the solution.

The answer is 2408.

There is a cool formula to find the area of a segment which is,

θ 360 π r 2 \frac { \theta }{ 360 } \pi { r }^{ 2 }

using the formula given above you can find the area as follows,

90 11 360 × 22 7 × 28 2 \frac { \frac { 90 }{ 11 } }{ 360 } \times \frac { 22 }{ 7 } \times { 28 }^{ 2 }

i.e. 1 11 × 1 4 × 22 × 4 × 28 \frac { 1 }{ 11 } \times \frac { 1 }{ 4 } \times 22\times { 4\times 28 }

i.e. 2 × 28 2\times { 28 }

= 56 =56

And we can find the area of the circle as, π r 2 \pi { r }^{ 2 }

i.e, 22 7 × 28 × 2 \frac { 22 }{ 7 } \times 28\times 2

= 2464 =2464

there fore the area of the major segment is 2464 56 = 2408 2464-56=2408
