On the right we have a wheatstone bridge and it is balanced then we have two conditions that we can adopt to criteria of ease and better to consider that no current flows in the 5 ohm resistor, but we could also consider that it is a short circuit, then removing that resistor have in a series arrangement in the last 2 branches immediately associate because the current in series components is the same, then we 4 ohms on a branch and 2 ohms in the other branch, and the current through R is 2Ia and in 4 ohms is Ia, and how they are in parallel we have the tension should be the same logo 2Ia * R = 4ia this implies that R = 2ohms
