Clocks and Time

Algebra Level 2

You purchase a clock at your local thrift shop not knowing that it had a factory defect. Each minute of the clock is only 50 seconds long. You set the clock on April 19, 2015 at 00:00. Later on you notice that the clock shows April 20, 2015 at 00:00. What is the real date and time?

April 20, 2015 at 02:00 April 19, 2015 at 16:00 April 19, 2015 at 20:00 April 19, 2015 at 18:00

Each minute on this clock is 1/6 of a minute short. 24 x 60 x 1/6 = 240 mins = 4 hours Four hours less than midnight is 20:00 the day before

A very clever approach to the problem.

(60 x 60) x 24= 86400(total actual seconds in day)

{86400} divided by {60x50x24} =72000

{72000} divided by{60} =1200

{1200} divided by {60} =20

Therefore, the actual time was 20:00
