(1+x)^4 (1-x)^8. Expanding with the help of binomial theorem we get (1+4c1.2x+4c2.4x^2+4c3.8x^3+16x^4) (1-8c1.x+8c2.x^2-8c3.x^3+8c4.x^4-8c5.x^5+8c6.x^6-8c7.x^7+x^8). Now here is the trick you multiply and add only those terms which contains only the term x^2.

(1. 8c2.x^2) - (4c1.2x.8c1.x)+ (1.4c2.4x^2) = (28x^2)-(64x^2)+(24x^2) = -12x^2 . So the answer is -12. good luck
