Color Focus

Algebra Level 2

There are 200 200 uncolored sticks in a sack. 1 4 \frac{1}{4} of them are colored blue \color{#3D99F6} {\text{blue}} , 1 3 \frac{1}{3} of the remaining uncolored sticks are colored black, 1 5 \frac{1}{5} of those still uncolored are colored red \color{#D61F06} {\text{red}} , and the rest are colored yellow \color{#CEBB00} {\text{yellow}} .

Now, 1 2 \frac{1}{2} of all of the sticks colored yellow \color{#CEBB00} {\text{yellow}} are colored red \color{#D61F06} {\text{red}} . What percentage (in %) of the sticks are now painted green \color{#20A900} {\text{green}} ?

Sorry, but I wanted to make sure you guys were remembering to think about questions, so I had to write a problem to keep you awake. None of the sticks are green, so the answer is 0 \fbox{0}

the question is asking for yellow coloured sticks !!

The wording is bad. "colored blue" could be the verb "colored", meaning that they are taken out of the sack and colored, with paint, blue... if you truly want to make a trick question like this, there should not be the word "colored" in the problem; it makes it ambiguous.

I realized that it was 0 at the start, but then decided that "colored" must have been a verb for the question to be practical, and so I tried the answer 20 before 0.

EDIT: Okay, now the problem has been revised and it is perfectly fine.

Erm... there is no green in the question?

Reason :

1.Red + Yellow = Orange and not green

2.There were no other mixture of colours.

That's obvious. The color Green is not used anywhere, that is, no sticks are colored Green. So percentage of Green color would obviously be 0% \fbox{0\%} .

the combination of Red and Yellow is Orange not Green :)

so there's no stick is painted with Green or Any color combinations

its 0%

Look Bozo, the fact that green was not mentioned does not logically imply that it cannot be assumed. The remaining 20 could have been green. That argument can work both ways. To those who marked 0 you can say that they are making unjustified assumptions !!

The only think you need to solve is to look at the names of the colors.

200 are uncoloured 1/4 are blue of 200 thus 200*1/4= 50 are blue

now, 150 remains in which 1/3 are black thus 150*1/3=50 are black so, 100 remains

of 100 1/5 are red so red are 100*1/5=20 so 80 left are yellow but 1/2 of 80 are red thus red are 40+20=60 so of 200 50 are blue and black,60 are red , 40 are yellow thus 0 remains
