Colouring a Cubes Edges

Geometry Level 3

I have a cube. I am colouring its edges. I rule I have to face is that each vertices has to have three different coloured edges that is adjacent to it. At least how many colours do I need to complete this task?

6 4 5 3

Take a look:

3 is the minimum. If you color all of the edges oriented along a certain axis (x, y, z) the same color with each axis being a different color then you only need 3 colors. Each vertex is connected to one edge from each axis so for example if all edges along the x axis are blue, all edges along the y axis are red, and all edges along the z axis are yellow, then each vertex is connected to one blue edge, one red edge, and one yellow edge.
