Why? Where's your working? How do you know that there can't be any other scenarios?
There are three conditions
(1) Either husband and wife will come.
(2)Only wife will come.
(3)Neither of them will come .
Therefore there are 3^n possibilities , where n is the number of couples.
Therefore the required answer is 3 ^ 5 , which is 243.
