Geometry Level 3

cos 6 x + sin 6 x = m cos 4 x + n \large \cos^6{x} + \sin^6{x} = m\cos{4x} + n

The above shows a trigonometric identity, where m m and n n are constants.

Find m + n m + n .

Since, it is an identity, it must hold for all real x.Hence, substitute x=0 in the equation to get m+n=1.
