the prefix mega stand for 1 000 000, the prefix giga stand for 1 000 000 000, or 1000 mega's. But in computer science, due to the fact that the base of the numbers is binary, it moves to the next closer exponential of 2, 1024.

so 1 GB= 1024 MB therefore: X=9216 MB / GB = 9216 MB / 1024 MB =9

1 GB is actually equal to 1000 MB and not 1024MB

Actually that is a common misconception because Kilo, Mega and Giga are usually measures for powers of 10. However in this case the binary system works on base 2, so we have 2 10 M B = 1024 M B = G B 2^{10} MB = 1024MB = GB I suppose the power of ten was chosen because it was close to 1000.
