Conductivity of Non Metals

When a boy touches an electrical device bare-footed i.e. without wearing any footwear, he gets an electrical shock. Assume that he is now wearing footwear made of a non-metallic material. Will he get an electric shock?

Details

  • He is in standing position while touching the electrical device.

Non-metals do not conduct electricity but graphite is an exception because it has the capability of conducting electricity. Therefore the answer is can't say as the non-metal can be graphite.

Okay, this thought did occur to me, but would you be kind enough to explain how can you possibly fabricate a footwear out of Graphite?
Graphite usually has a hexagonal layered planar structure, which is why it allows conduction through it despite being a non-metal.

But, this arrangement simultaneously results in a poor compressive strength, which clearly doesn't make Graphite the best choice for making footwear.

So, the correct answer should be No .

I know that a footwear can't be made of graphite but in the question it is written that assume that it is made of non-metal.

The question asks to assume that the footwear is made of A Non-metal . It doesn't say that the footwear is made up particularly of Graphite.

that is non-sense.

How can you say that.

As we know non - metals are poor conductors of electricity, but graphite is an exception, as it is good conductor of electricity. Therefore the answer is can't say.

@Rakshit Pandey Did you know there is nothing like perfect insulator, As a matter of fact, if you apply high enough voltage to just about anything, be it a metal or a conductor, it can conduct an electric current

Yes, I know that. :)

@vaibhav kandwal Lead is not a non-metal.

Sorry my bad, corrected 😆

graphite is a conductor though it is a nonmetal .Hence it may conduct electricity.So without knowing the name of nonmetal our answer should be "cant say".
