Cone On An Inclined Plane?

A uniform solid cone is placed on an inclined plane as shown above at the limiting case. Find tan α \tan \alpha if θ = 4 5 \theta = 45^\circ .

The answer is 0.25.

Here we have to use torque here. If we draw the FBD it will look like

Now our equation as Net Clockwise Torque = Net Anticlockwise Torque \text {Net Clockwise Torque = Net Anticlockwise Torque}

Hence Our equations stands to be ,

mgcos θ \theta x htan α \alpha = mgsin θ \theta x h/4 [ As h/4 is the COM of a cone. \large \text{ As h/4 is the COM of a cone.} ]

Solving We Get ,

tan α \alpha = 1/4 tan θ \theta

hence tan α \alpha = 0.25 0.25 is the ans
