In reality, the correct answer should be that the left table is longer. If this was an actual photograph of a room, and we took the two tables and compared them, then the left table would be longer. It is just the angle at which the photograph is taken that makes it appear as if they are both the same length.
The optical illusion that tells us in our minds that the left one is longer happens because we rotate the two tables in our minds, pretending they were real objects, and find that the left table indeed should be longer.
