For Statement 1, x 2 > x x^2 > x is false for x [ 0 , 1 ] . x \in [0,1]. Statement 2 is true for all x < 0 x < 0 since ( x ) 3 = ( 1 ) 3 x 3 = x 3 . (-x)^3 = (-1)^3 \cdot x^3 = -x^3.
