Our goal is to find coordinate points of D. What do we know about the problem? We know that EF is 4 times the length of DE (which is essentially saying that DE is 1/4 the length of EF). We also know that the coordinate points of E and F (given to us in the problem). Our first goal is to find the length between E and F. To find that length, we take the difference of X and Y of points given. So we have for X, 14-6=8, and for Y, 12-4=8. Our next step is to find the length of DE, DE is 1/4 of EF. In our last step we found the length of E and F, taking 1/4 of that number will give us the length of DE. So for X, we have 8 1/4 = 2, for Y, we have 8 1/4 = 2. represents the length of DE. Then, our last step is find coordinates of D. We know our E coordinates and we just found the length of DE. So from that information, we take (6,4) plus the length of DE which is 2 for both X and Y and add it to the E coordinates. We then get (8,6).
