Corpses Are Still People; Cats And Dogs Are Not

Logic Level 1

There were 2056 2056 people in a battle. During the course of the battle, 29 29 gangsters, 1 1 FBI agent, 12 12 rebels, 7 7 cats and 7 7 dogs died. How many people were there now?

Assumption:

  • This is straight after the battle; nothing had been moved.

Hint:

  • Look at the title.

The answer is 2056.

The title states that people who have deceased are still considered people, and cats and dogs are never considered people. As nothing happens that would remove a person, the collective number of people remains 2056 \boxed{2056}

I'd disagree with the premise, but if the premise is accepted, dying doesn't remove a 'person' from consideration. So unless some of the people transmogrified into cats or dogs, the number of people after the battle is the same as the number before.

There were 2056 2056 people and a total of 42 42 people, 7 7 dogs and 7 7 cats died. But the question asks for how many people are there now. And since nothing has been moved, the corpses are still there. Corpses are people, they are just dead. So 2056 2056 people are there now; not counting the cats and dogs because we were not supposed to count them.
