Try making a rectangle with the largest side as the height, and the other two sides as the length. Now, use the pythagorean theorem and you'll get

5 2 + 7 2 = 25 + 49 = 74 \sqrt{5^{2} + 7^{2}} = \sqrt{25 + 49} = \sqrt{74}
