The unit digit of all individual terms is 8

So for the sum to be 1000, the number of terms must be a multiple of 5

Hence, only two choices are valid: 8 + 8 + 88 + 88 + 88 and 888 + 88 + 8 + 8 + 8

But 8 + 8 + 88 + 88 + 88 is around 300ish (too less than 1000)

So by elimination, only valid choice is 888 + 88 + 8 + 8 + 8 which indeed sums to 1000 :)

888 + 88 = 976/ 8 + 8 + 8 = 24/ 976 + 24 = 1,000/ Therefore, the answer is 888 + 88 + 8 + 8 + 8 .
