A bat and ball cost £1.10. The bat costs £1.00 more than the ball. How much does the ball cost Please give your answer like this E.G if it was 30p then change it to 0.30.

A common misconception here is that the bat costs 1p, when in reality, it costs 1p more than the ball. If the ball were .10p, then the bat would be 1p more, or 1.10p. That makes a total of 1.20p, which is incorrect. If the ball costs .05p, however, then the bat would be 1.05p, and .05p + 1.05p = 1.10p.

x + y = 1.1 , x = y + 1 x+y=1.1,x=y+1 so 2 y + 1 = 1.1 2y+1=1.1 and y = 0.05 y=0.05
